This little plant fills a number of gardening niches. It makes an excellent groundcover in moist shaded areas and will grow under trees where nothing else will survive. Because it is so tough, it can be invasive if not controlled. It is very easy to pull up if it grows beyond your boundaries. As an understory plant, it fills in quickly around other plants without choking them out. Also called Ivy Leaf Violet because of the glossy foliage that trails along the ground and cascades from containers. Ships in a 4.5" pot.

  Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'
a/k/a: Black mondo grass, black lilyturf, snakebeard.

Zones 5 to 9; may need a protected location in Zone 5 and 6A.
Full sun to partial shade, part shade is probably the best to maintain dark coloring.
This clumping perennial in the lily family spreads by underground stolons to form a dense evergreen grass-like groundcover.

One of the few “black-leafed” plants in existence; with narrow purplish-black, leaves. White (sometimes flushed pink) flower spikes rise above the foliage. Best grown in rich, sandy or loamy composition soil, with an acidic or neutral pH. While it will tolerate some drought, preferred conditions are well-drained soil, with consistent moisture that does not completely dry-out.

Excellent, easy care, low maintenance plant choice for slopes, mass planting, border edging, in a rock garden, containers or at the base of trees. Planted eighteen (18) inches apart, should fill-in after three years, may be planted ten (10) inches apart for quicker coverage. Deer resistant and drought tolerant. Similar in appearance and habit to liriope, but not as invasive as Liriope spicata.

* Four (4) inch pot.

Shipped bareroot to CA, OR or WA.

<care-instructions>Immediately unpack, and discard any packing material. Plant bare roots as soon as possible.
If you are unable to plant bare roots immediately, soak roots in tepid water for at least 15 minutes. Box and cover, after removing excess moisture, especially from leaves. Store in a cool, dry area; not a frost-free refrigerator. Do not let plants freeze. Soak every couple of days, until you are ready to plant. If planting is delayed, heel them into a temporary bed. Dig a trench, lay plants at a 45 degree angle; with roots in the trench, cover roots with loose soil, and water well.
When you are ready to plant it, do the job as early in the day as possible. Overcast, slightly cool weather is ideal, but you can always add some temporary shade if the sun is hot. Even sun-loving plants appreciate a little shade their first few days in the ground.
Establishing a balance between water holding capacity and aeration is essential to a beautiful garden. If soil is heavy, it should be amended with sand, bark, and / or compost to improve drainage, and soil could be mounded above grade to assure proper drainage. Peat moss has excellent water holding characteristics, bark and sand promote aeration and drainage. Almost all perennials prefer well-drained soil.
Add organic matter at every opportunity!

Bare Root Planting Instructions
•	Hole width should be almost twice as wide as the root system and about as deep as the roots are long. Planting deep is a major cause of death.
•	Mound soil in the bottom of the hole so that peak reaches just about ground level.
•	Set the plant so crown (the part between roots and where stems will emerge) sits at or just below the soil line. Spread roots so they cascade over mound. Backfill with soil mix; by hand, pack down the soil.
•	Make sure plant is straight and crown is just below ground level.
•	Prune any broken stems and branches.
•	Mulch 2 to 3 inches deep. Pull mulch away from plant base. Water slowly and thoroughly.
Keep plants watered during their first season. A weekly deep soaking will encourage the root system. It is best to water early in the day, giving foliage a chance to dry out before evening. Apply a layer of compost each spring to provide nutrients and maintain soil health. Beyond that, most perennials need little supplemental fertilizer.

The Norfolk Island pine makes an excellent indoor Christmas tree. The needled branches are much like those of a fir tree. The branches grow in regular, precise tiers, giving a symmetrical look to this beautiful tere. The name 'Star Pine' refers to its symmetrical shape.
The leaves of the young and mature trees are different – hence the name 'heterophylla'.
The Norfolk Island Pine's salt tolerance makes it an excellent coastal landscape tree.
In dry air, low light or excessive winter heat it will droop its lower branches. Frost damage may cause multiple stems with weakly attached trunks.

This is a very tough tree that tolerates a wide range of soils. Tall specimens are often damaged in hurricanes and high winds. Trees will recover - cut them back to the ground to force new undamaged suckers to form.

Many of these trees sold by grocery stores and nurseries as indoor Christmas trees, are sprayed with a light coating of green paint to increase their appeal. Many trees sold on the market are actually Araucaria columnaris, which looks almost identical to Araucaria heterophylla when young, but older plants tend to have branches closer together and a darker foliage.

These trees are growing in 6" pots

This is a small juniper that is often used for bonsai purposes because of its unusual and irregular growth habit. The plant is available in 1 gallon size containers and the plants themselves are 6" to 1' in height already.

They are marvelously adapted to our local Georgia conditions and tolerate full sun, the heat, and drought well.

They can be grown in a container or in the soil.

We will combine shipping charges for multiple items.
